  • Rich has relished the excitement, diversity, nourishment and insight from his 34-year career in sales engineering, process control consulting, strategy consulting, marketing consulting and entrepreneurial start-ups in food, health care services, renewable energy and resource recovery. He is a public speaker and advocate for changes to the American health care system. At his core, he is Andy’s partner. In his heart, he is a passionate advocate, declarer and student that knows how the world works and how to make things work (better) in the world. His actions are intended to inspire his children.
Rich graduated from Lehman College in 1973 with a bachelor’s degree in political science. It was at this time (in student government) that he discovered the power of advocacy. He then served as a Rotary Foundation ambassador of good will in Germany, where he studied the Holocaust. During this tenure, he was transformed in his beliefs and from this experience, he became convinced that one of the key lessons of the holocaust was that mass extermination of innocent souls was possible when people were placed in groups, so as to dehumanize them.
He began his formal career in Honeywell as a sales engineer. During his tenure there, he fell in love with engineering, technology and C-suite sales. He then became an operations consultant to Fortune 100 clients in North America, South America and Europe working with over 150 manufacturing and distribution facilities, where he took apart and redesigned production processes to improve quality, throughput and costs.
In 1986, he launched Evan Kristen Specialty Foods, which grew and marketed value added produce using unique technology for washing, cutting and packaging. This first entrepreneurial tour of duty provided a wealth of insight (and pain) into the unique requirements of early stage/transformational commercial ventures.
From 1989 to 1992, Rakowski was a partner at Marketing Corporation of America (now the Growth Platforms Institute, a part of the Interpublic Group) where he provided marketing counsel to Fortune 100 companies. His partners included the former VP’s of marketing from most of the top packaged goods companies. It was at this time that he discovered (and became enamored with) the power of brands.
In 1992, he founded and led New Paradigm Ventures (NPV), a consulting and investment firm in the health care and food industry market. A study conducted by NPV on medical outcomes improvement resulted in the care enhancement strategy that Mr. Rakowski brought to American Healthways to respond to perceived gaps in the U.S. health care system. During his tenure, Healthways stock grew from $18 per share to a non-split-adjusted $53 per share on a roughly 10% increase in volume. New Paradigm Ventures developed new business ventures in conjunction with brands such as Campbell Soup Company, Centrum, The Discovery Channel, GE, Nissan and General Nutrition Centers.
He served as President of American Healthways, (now Healthways, Inc.) (NASDAQ: HWAY), a large market cap health care company based in Nashville, TN, which serves the needs of patients with chronic and acute health conditions. This specific experience inspired him and passionately drew him into a focus in healthcare services.
In 2007, along with his partner and best friend, Andy Lipman, he founded Intersection, LLC with a business thesis founded upon the principles of insight, passion and declaration expressed through seminal events that meaningfully grow emerging/transformational business models. Andy and Rich’s relationship is a unique model in professional and personal intimacy that has been a large source of enrichment to each other (and to others).
Rich has extensively worked, lived and traveled internationally and deeply believes that our economy, human community and issues are global in nature.
Rich and his father were featured in the documentary film Mr. Rakowski, which premiered at the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam and examines the effects of the Holocaust on his childhood and their relationship. Rich has been featured in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Time Magazine, ABC News and other media outlets.

  • Andy Lipman has had the great fortune, beginning very early in both his childhood and his career, of being put into complicated situations and having to figure out how to survive, prosper and create successful outcomes. This “training” has enabled a calm and fearless approach that Andy brings to life and business. He is a business developer by nature. In his heart, he is a deeply caring soul who loves to nourish others and create a feeling of love and worth. His actions are intended to create harmony and inspire his wife and children.
Andy grew up in the northeast and graduated from Union College in 1989 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. During this time, he also attended Cambridge University in England and Kansai Gaidai University in Japan, where he studied the Toyota Production System. This training on how to “decompose” an industrial process and “redesign/reassemble” a process in a manner that results in greater efficiency and outcomes became a core set of tools he has applied through his career.
He began his formal career with Andersen Consulting (now Accenture) where, at a very young age, he worked on operations strategy and manufacturing process redesign for clients that included a number of Fortune 500 industrial companies. At Andersen, he was also an early developer and implementer of methodologies and approaches used in business process re-engineering on behalf of large non-industrial companies. He subsequently joined The George Group, a boutique consulting firm specializing in Lean Manufacturing, business process reengineering and six-sigma, to continue to hone his skills and deliver out-sized value for clients.
In 1994, he joined Kidd, Kamm & Company, a well-established private equity firm based in Greenwich, CT and in 1996 co-founded the successor firm Kidd & Company. As a principal with Kidd & Company, Andy founded and was responsible for building and driving value for several companies, including Chatham Technologies, Medsource Technologies, Empower Health and Infinity Bio-Energy.
Andy’s role in each of these businesses has spanned from the initial idea/thesis through company formation, strategy development, acquisition sourcing, negotiation and closing, transaction financing, management team recruitment and oversight and strategy execution. While Andy also has deep transactional and financing experience (having closed over 30 acquisitions with companies that were not for sale and raised in excess of $1 billion in equity and debt financing), his passion and true value-add is in identifying and executing seminal/strategic events for these companies that have served to drive step function equity value growth and positioning for premium exits.
In 2007, along with his partner and best friend, Rich Rakowski, he founded Intersection, LLC with a business thesis founded upon the principles of insight, passion and declaration expressed through seminal events that meaningfully grow emerging/transformational business models. Andy and Rich’s relationship is a unique model in professional and personal intimacy that has been a large source of enrichment to each other (and to others). Andy has worked and lived internationally and has a deep interest in developing business models that can have a great impact in both the U.S. and other areas of the world that may be in greater need. He is an avid guitarist and aspiring (but aging) basketball player.
